The Genesee Environmental Center is the most recent incarnation of what started out as a barn! A group of people in the 1960s envisioned a resort on the premises and went a long way toward realizing that goal with Penn Valley Resort. Later the doors were opened as the River Bend Inn - both businesses gaining local renown for great food and a well-stocked bar. The River Bend Inn closed in 1999. The Hinrichsens stepped in with their own vision in 2003 of a companion business to their successful natural foods store. Long-time environmental activists, Larry and Diana are creating an atmosphere which preserves a piece of the past along with looking toward a future of sustainable living. The center opened to the public in 2010. Plans for the Center include expanded hours for dining, and hosting events for private parties and for the public.
